Open Markov Type Population Models: From Discrete to Continuous Time

چکیده
We address the problem of finding a natural continuous time Markov type process—in open populations—that best captures information provided by an chain in discrete which is usually sole possible observation from data. Given chain, we single out two main approaches: In first one, consider calibration procedure process using transition matrix and show that, when embeddable has optimal solutions. second approach, semi-Markov processes—and schemes—and propose direct extension theory to one known structure representation result for processes that decomposes as sum terms given products random variables functions built adequate increasing sequence stopping times.

Markov Reward Models and Markov Decision Processes in Discrete and Continuous Time: Performance Evaluation and Optimization
State-based systems with discrete or continuous time are often modelled with the help of Markov chains. In order to specify performance measures for such systems, one can define a reward structure over the Markov chain, leading to the Markov Reward Model (MRM) formalism. Typical examples of performance measures that can be defined in this way are time-based measures (e.g. mean time to failure),...
متن کاملComplex discrete dynamics from simple continuous population models.
Nonoverlapping generations have been classically modelled as difference equations in order to account for the discrete nature of reproductive events. However, other events such as resource consumption or mortality are continuous and take place in the within-generation time. We have realistically assumed a hybrid ODE bidimensional model of resources and consumers with discrete events for reprodu...
متن کاملDiscrete or Continuous-Time Hidden Markov Models for Count Time Series
In Hidden Markov Models (HMM) the probability distribution of response Yt (∀t = 1, 2, . . . , T ) at each observation time is conditionally specified on the current hidden or latent state Xt. The sequence of hidden states follows a first order time-homogeneous Markov chain. Discrete time or continuous time HMM are respectively specified by T ⊆ N or T ⊆ R (from now on DHMM and CHMM). In this wor...
متن کاملMean-variance Portfolio Selection under Markov Regime: Discrete-time Models and Continuous-time Limits
In this paper, we propose a discrete-time model for mean-variance portfolio selection. One of the distinct features is that the system under consideration is a Markov modulated system. We show that under suitable conditions and scaling, the process of interest goes to a switching diffusion limit. Related issues on optimal strategies and efficient frontier will also be mentioned.
